Driver Comparison Test – 20 Year Difference

After picking up the Callaway Elyte mini driver recently, I now have 4 drivers at my disposable. I’m planning to do some fall cleaning (aka selling) of my unused golf gear so I figured what better time than now to do a comparison test.

The drivers I have were released in 2005, 2017, 2022 and 2025 so you’ll so some pretty drastic comparisons. Unfortunately, the driver head size, lofts, shaft flex and shaft length don’t match 1 for 1 so it’s not a true apples to apples comparison, but still fun nonetheless.

The Results

Driver Comparison Test Results 2005 vs 2017 vs 2022 vs 2025

This was a fun experiment even though I should’ve worn ear plugs during the Sasquatch test. The Skytrak missed a few shots and I deleted the worst shot from each grouping to help normalize the results a little more.

When I look at the results I’m not really surprised there wasn’t much difference between the drivers in the last 8 years. The Sasquatch could’ve performed better, but the grip was at least 15 years old and I was holding on for dear life during those shots.

The Cobra King F7 was the only driver of the newer models that I actually went to the store and was able to test. The LTDx LS I ordered off the Cobra website thinking low spin and shaft length was key to longer drives but that performed the worst for my swing path and speed. The Callaway Elyte Mini didn’t have demo club available and R7 Mini that I tested wasn’t available for sale so I really just hoped for the best there.

The two shorter shafts of the new drivers at 43.5″ and 43.75″ helped keep the dispersion more consistent and surprisingly kept the swing speed. Being shorter myself, the stock shaft lengths at 45″+ are pretty much a no go for me based on the LTDx LS results. At the end of the day, I’ll be selling off the two Cobra drivers, keeping the Sasquatch for nostalgia and moving forward with the Elyte Mini Driver. I believe I can get my club speed up to the 103-105 range and focus on impact to get some more distance out of it in the future.
